Prior to becoming my own boss as a clinical wellness practitioner and developing a robust clientele in Dalton, I spent time in sales and marketing. Picture it...1998, Atlanta, GA...the internet is a mere newborn baby. Getting anywhere in the field took voice and tenacity. It always helped if you had the right suit and the perfect shade of lipstick, but I was best led by my charisma over the telephone lines. My first "real job" allowed me to move up the ranks in a mid-size company to obtain the position of marketing manager. Through successfully mastering re-sales, I was given an opportunity to train and supervise cold-call marketing teams. I started with a company called "Heart To Heart," which would be the equivalent of Match.com before technology. These three years opened doors for other projects, such as fundraising for a company who managed a campaign for the Atlanta Opera. They quickly recognized my potential to lead and I was given an amazing opportunity to manage a sales team for the same company at The PaperMill Playhouse— one of the most prolific regional theaters in The United States.
I just couldn't keep Georgia off my mind. Jersey ain't for me, so I moved back to Atlanta. That's when my 22 year career as a wellness therapist began. I kept meeting the weirdos that made sense to me— chiropractors, massage therapists and other holistic practitioners. After experiencing the profound impact that holistic health had made on my own life, I pursued the study of clinical massage and neuromuscular therapy. After establishing a clientele during that first year that straddled 2003-2004, I returned to the school I graduated from: ASHA. The Academy of Somatic Healing Arts then roped me in as a project manager for accreditations and continuing education programs. I continued to see clients at Buckhead Wellness Group, and as I have often told people, when you live in a big city as a young person, you don't get to enjoy it. You are too busy working! I also took on the role as ASHA's clinic supervisor— grading students and teaching adjunct classes. I had some good gigs going on in Atlanta until 2006. That's when Dalton, GA called me home to be with my Mama in her final years. I have no regrets as Dalton has been an amazing community to support my therapeutic practice since 2009.
I think that I forgot to mention that I went to college. In fact, Mercer University got three years out of me before I transferred to Georgia State for almost two years. I chose Mercer as an undergrad because I was certain that it would help me to get into Mercer Law School later. I would have been a kick-ass litigator. I'm just not sure that I would have been happy. I surely wasn't happy trying to become a concert flutist or educator under Mercer's music program. I'm not exactly sure why I thought I should double major in music and criminal justice, but the scholarship kinda swayed me. Sure, I was smart...but I once registered as a "squiggle" on a personality profile questionnaire. Forget Myers-Briggs, this was some serious geometric profiling! It was suggested that I might end up as a circle, square, triangle or maybe even a rhomboid. "Squiggle" wasn't mentioned until I was the only person in my group to be labeled as one, whatever that means. So college wasn't a failure— I just don't have a degree to show for my overflowing number of hours in two programs of study over five years. Throughout college, I never really found what I truly wanted to do. All I ended up mastering was the art of essay writing, according to one of my professors. Now I do it for fun. What a dork...
Anyway, I'm good at being flexible and getting into places that might surprise people. My methods might not make sense to anyone else, but that's why I like to work alone. I can generally complete in a day what peers take a week to get done, and once I start a project, I'm off to the races. While I love what I do as a therapist, I'm loving even more all of the fun things I've learned to do as I've marketed and sold my therapeutic skills over the last two decades. Wait...I've been an entrepreneur that long? Crazy right? It's certainly given me a lot of experience. I'm an odd mix of workaholic and eclectic artist— both starving and over-fed at the same time. Is the "Squiggle" thing starting to make more sense now? Regardless, I want to start capitalizing on my many and diverse talents. Let's increase revenue together, because I can rescue you from exorbitant expenses. I can restore your control and access to your marketing tools. I can get your business seen.
I think one of my greatest strengths is being able to meet people where they are, which has allowed me to have unique life experiences and great professional relationships. I'm usually never early, but I'm never late to an assignment or appointment. If we set a deadline, you can count on it. I have references, so just let me know. It's been a while since I've had to really think about a resume, so I hope you have enjoyed my "squiggle-style" curriculum vitae.
